About Bridge to Integrated Living
We believe various components of life dictate how we feel, behave, and interact with other people. Genetics, or family history, predispose individuals to various psychiatric illnesses. Psychosocial elements, including conditions where we are born and raised, family interactions, education and employment also play a significant role in psychiatric illness. At the Bridge to Integrated Living, a comprehensive approach is applied to each patient, as every patient has an individual set of biological and psychosocial factors.
Conditions including, but not limited to Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, Substance Abuse, Binge Eating Disorder, and Pathological Gambling may be treated at Bridge to Integrated Living. Most times patients will have difficulties with a combination of disorders, needing an integrated approach to treatment. Based on experience and evidence, an integrated method of treatment works superiorly to treatment which isolates treatment to one or two entities at a time.
At the Bridge to Integrated Living, we provide integrated treatment of all the entities in which patients are having difficulties. Integrated treatment, with psychotherapy and/or pharmacological tools, has been found to lead to improved outcomes. In some instances, medications may help to reduce cravings to abuse substances, along with treatment of any underlying psychiatric illness.
About The Doctor: Nathan Carter
I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, “the Windy City”. I attended the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, then Howard University where I obtained my medical degree.
Psychiatry residency - Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina Addiction psychiatry fellowship - University of Texas, Southwestern in Dallas.
At UT Southwestern, I learned about treating patients with addiction diagnoses, in conjunction with co-occurring general psychiatric illnesses. An integrated approach is found to provide a more robust effect, in treatment of dually diagnosed individuals, where the patient as a whole is considered.
I obtained Board Certifications in General Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine.

I have been seeing Dr. Carter for a few months now and I must say he's a wonderful doctor. He takes the time to talk to me not only about my prescriptions but about my life and the things that I can do that don't include medicine that will make my life more enjoyable and more manageable. Dr. Carter has me on buprenorphine and gabapentin. Buprenorphine has really changed and possibly saved my life. I have struggled for years with an addiction that was like a monkey on my back. I was sure that it would be a problem that would haunt me f koor the rest of my life. This medication for me personally is a life saver, literally! As I have come to learn I will always be a person who has an addiction problem but now that I'm on this medication I'm no longer scared anymore. Buprenorphine helps me with pain but more importantly it takes that urge of wanting narcotic pain medication away. I'm not exactly sure how it works but for me it has been a life saver. In the past anytime I had pain or even just had a bad day getting pain medication would eat at my brain until I got that "fix". I no longer want narcotic pain medication in my life and that is the greatest thing ever. I'm living life to the fullest now. I can get out of bed in the mornings and look myself in the eyes with no shame. Thank you for saving my life Dr. Carter.
I came to Bridge from Wilmington NC and moving from Wilmington was the best thing I've ever done. I was in a program for subutex when I lived in Wilmington and when I moved to Concord I had to find a different doctor. I called Bridge and they got me in as soon as they could..no waiting list, I got somebody in the phone every time I called and MUCH CHEAPER. MOST IMPORTANTLY THEY ARE MUCH MORE CONCERNED. I was EXTREMELY sick from my doctor in Wilmington wanting to charge me 360 for 1 week worth of meds. Thank you very much Bridge to integrated living. I now know that it's not always about money.
Great Doctor in an understatement when referring to this man. This man is one of the very few phenomenal doctors left in the medical industry. He is genuinely concerned with his patient's well being & progress. He is very attentive as well. If you are looking for a doctor who will listen & effectively address your issues & concerns this is the doctor for you. I have been a patient of his since June 2016 & I have made nothing but progress in the past year, all thanks to him. He's always made me feel like an actual person instead of a number or case. Since day 1 he's been all about helping me better my situation & my life. Anybody I have bumped into or known to have a need for his services I always refer them to him. Thank you Dr. Carter for your dedication & support. You've impacted my life & so many others lives in a positive way! Thanks for doing all that you do!!!
The greatest thing I can say is I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! They are wonderful understanding people and they don’t judge you!!!!
